Yesterday, we wore red, white and blue to honour veterans and commemorate eighty years since the Second World War ended.
We listened to radio accounts from veterans, and evacuees. In English we wrote a letter home, describing our time with our host family in the countryside. During maths, we learnt about Alan Turing and had to decipher a range of codes. Some of us even created our own!
The Second World War was a time of separation, loss and shortages for many children in Britain. Resources were scarce, yet children did their best to make the most of things, building toys and creating games. We went out onto the playground to play some of those games.
At noon, we paused for two minutes silence. During the afternoon, we listened to music from World War II. We listened to the words of Vera Lynn, and thought about how the words made us feel, and how the music was different to today. We also listened to the air raid siren, and explained what happened if the siren went off.
Have a wonderful weekend.
