Pride in personal appearance and cleanliness are strongly encouraged.

  • For hygiene and safety reasons, long hair must be simply tied back with neutral colours, avoiding large bows and hair bands.
  • Saint Clare’s does not permit pupils to have ‘extreme’ haircuts, including lines cut into hair. We regard hair that is cut extremely short, below a number one at the back and sides as extreme.
  • Hair colour should be single natural colour.
  • Hair covering the eyes must be tied back using an appropriate hair accessory.

  • No jewellery, except an analogue wristwatch and one pair of plain stud earrings are allowed in school. If a child has just had their ears pierced and is unable to remove the earrings for PE, the child must put plasters over them.
  • If pupils are to have their ears pierced, it should be done at the beginning of the summer holiday, in order for the earrings to be removed for school in September.
  • No makeup, tattoos or nail varnish to be worn in school.
  • All pupils must bring a full water bottle into school each day which must be labelled with their name. Pupils are able to refill their water bottle throughout the day. Please ensure the water bottle has a sports cap or straw and not an open top.
  • All pupils will be provided with the equipment they need to learn in school. They do not need to bring in their own pencil case or stationery.
  • When your child starts at Saint Clare’s, a book bag and PE bag can be bought. Pupils will then use this throughout their time at school.
  • Pupils can bring one small bag to school to bring in their homework, reading book, water bottle and packed lunch. Please ensure that their bag is not oversized as cloakrooms have limited space.
  • Please ensure that your child’s name is marked on all items of clothing including pumps, trainers and school shoes.
