Online Safety

At St Clare’s Catholic Primary School, our approach to online safety is rooted in our mission to help every child grow in wisdom, love and respect. We want pupils to use technology in ways that support their learning while reflecting the Gospel values we live out each day. Children learn that being safe and responsible online is part of treating themselves and others with dignity.

Pupils at St Clare’s use a wide range of technology to enrich their learning. They are given clear guidance for all online activities, and staff supervise them carefully, taking every reasonable precaution to ensure they only access appropriate, purposeful content.

We consider the risks children may face online and group these into the 4Cs:

  • Conduct
  • Contact
  • Content
  • Commerce

Our Online Safety Risk Assessment outlines the actions we take to reduce these risks. It is reviewed annually by:

  • Online Safety Leader: [Steven Cummings]
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead: [Rosalie Wroblewski]
  • Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads: [William Parkinson, Sarah Clack, Laura Clayton]
  • Nominated Governor for Safeguarding: [Janet Metcalf]
  • Nominated Governor for Online Safety: [Janet Metcalf]
  • Technical representative (IT Support): [Ed Burn]

Education at St Clare’s

Children are taught how to keep personal information private, how to recognise when something doesn’t feel right, and where to go for help. They know that speaking up protects not only themselves but others too.

Teachers and support staff closely monitor all online work in school. Our filtering systems on school devices/servers help guide pupils and keep them focused on safe, appropriate content. Daily monitoring reports are reviewed by the DSL, and any concerns are addressed straight away in line with our Behaviour, Anti-Bullying, Equalities, Safeguarding and PREVENT procedures. Any actions taken are shared with the Governing Body.

Filtering and Monitoring

St Clare’s uses Cloud Sweeper/Netfilter to filter inappropriate content. Online activity from pupils, staff and visitors is monitored, with any concerns passed immediately to a Designated Safeguarding Lead so support can be put in place quickly and sensitively.

Working with our Families

Our school community is built on partnership, and we work closely with parents and carers to help children develop safe, healthy habits when using technology at home. We share regular updates through newsletters, workshops and school communications. Guidance for families is available below.

We also signpost parents and carers to trusted advice from the Knowsley City Learning Centre.
