We have been learning all about what VE is all about. We have talked about the feelings of the soldiers who fought, their friends and families. We learnt about soldier life and the different job roles they had. We made a Lancaster Bomber for Merlin and carried heavy bags like the soldiers had. We have looked at where we are on the map of the UK and heard about how some children had to move away from their families to keep safe. We thought that all the soldiers and families must have Ben really pleased when they heard the news that the war was over and learnt how they celebrated. We made flags, hats and ate war style deserts at our street party. We had great fun learning how to do a jitterbug dance and held out our dance festival showing off our new skills. We loved singing and hearing songs and rhymes from the 1940’s we even had a visit at our dance from the Prime Minister of the time Winston Churchill! We ended our day sharing the medals we made for the soldiers as we paraded and marched into formation.
