Super Scientists in Cherry Class!

Cherry Class have been getting hands-on with science this week as we explored the fascinating world of materials and their properties!

Our young scientists have been carrying out investigations to explore dissolving. We investigated what happens when different substances are added to a liquid and learned to use some important scientific vocabulary, including soluble, insoluble, solute and solution.

We also tackled a common scientific misconception: when something dissolves, it hasn’t disappeared! Although we may no longer be able to see a soluble substance once it has dissolved, it is still there, mixed throughout the liquid to form a solution.

The children made careful observations, discussed their predictions and used their results to explain what they noticed. There were plenty of fantastic scientific conversations as we challenged our thinking and developed our understanding.

A brilliant week of questioning, investigating and thinking like scientists in Cherry Class. Well done, Year 5!
