This week, Year 1 and Year 2 have been working hard in maths, English and design and technology lessons

In Maths, we have been learning how to subtract ten using our knowledge of place value. We discovered that when we subtract ten from a number, the tens digit changes while the ones digit stays the same. We used practical resources and our place value understanding to help us solve problems and explain our thinking.

In English, we continued our work on the wonderful story The Snail and the Whale. We practised sequencing the events of the story, thinking carefully about what happened at the beginning, middle and end. This helped us develop our understanding of story structure and improve our retelling skills. We also explored lots of new vocabulary from the text, discussing the meanings of unfamiliar words and using them in our own speaking and writing.

As part of our learning about healthy diets, we talked about making positive food choices and the importance of balanced nutrition. We put our learning into practice by making a healthier flapjack treat. The children enjoyed measuring ingredients, mixing them together and discussing how small changes to recipes can make them healthier while still being delicious. It was a fantastic opportunity to combine our learning with a practical activity, and everyone was very proud of the tasty results!

Well done to all of the children for their enthusiasm, hard work and excellent learning this week. We look forward to another exciting week ahead.
