What a fantastic week we have had taking part in Bikeability! The children have thoroughly enjoyed getting out and about on their bikes, building their confidence, and successfully completing their Level 1 and Level 2 road safety training with Go Velo. We are incredibly proud of the effort, enthusiasm, and determination they have all shown.
Throughout the course, the children have developed a wide range of important cycling skills, including:
- Carrying out basic bike checks (brakes, tyres, chain and seat height)
- Starting and stopping safely with good balance and control
- Using clear hand signals to communicate with other road users
- Understanding road positioning to stay visible and safe
- Learning how to negotiate junctions, including left and right turns
- Developing awareness of traffic, hazards, and other road users
- Practising decision-making skills when riding on quieter roads
These are essential life skills that will help the children become more confident and responsible cyclists.
Important Safety Reminders for Parents:
While this has been a brilliant learning experience, it is important to remember:
- This course does not mean children are ready to cycle independently on roads. They still need adult supervision when cycling.
- Children should always wear a helmet when riding their bikes.
- Please continue to reinforce safe cycling habits at home.
- Encourage children to ride in safe, appropriate locations and build their experience gradually.
We would like to say a big thank you to Go Velo for delivering such a valuable and enjoyable course, and well done again to all of our Year 5 cyclists – you have been amazing!
