This week in DT, we have started an exciting new food topic! But, before we begin making any real food, we have been learning how to stay safe and hygienic in the kitchen.

We explored different kitchen scenarios and worked in groups to sort examples of hygienic and unhygienic behaviours. They showed fantastic understanding when discussing why it is important to wash hands, keep surfaces clean, and handle food carefully.

We also began developing our food preparation skills by practising how to cut safely using the claw grip. We moulded some pretend fruit out of play-doh then had a go at cutting it up using our new skills. 

Next week, we will be continuing to develop these skills and will have the opportunity to explore different ingredients before designing and making our own fruit scones! :)
