This week, Elder Class had one of the best school days ever when we went on our trip to Mason’s Wood. It felt like stepping into a real-life nature adventure!
When we arrived, we met our friendly guide from the River Ribble Trust, who helped us explore the woodland and taught us all about the stream that runs through it. As we walked through the wood, we spotted natural dams made from fallen branches and leaves. We learned how these can slow the water down and help protect the river and the animals that live there.
One of our favourite parts was watching the flow of the stream and playing pooh sticks. We stood on the bridge, dropped our sticks in, and raced them along the water. There were lots of cheers, laughs, and a few very competitive moments too!
Next, we became mini scientists. We took a live water sample and carefully looked at what was inside. We were amazed to find tiny creatures wriggling around. It felt like discovering a secret underwater world right in front of us.
After that, we used binoculars to look closely at the woodland around us. We spotted different trees, birds, and even movement in the bushes. It made us realise how much wildlife is hidden all around if you take the time to look properly.
Once we walked back to school and had our lunch, the learning didn’t stop. In the afternoon, we talked about the different parts of a river and why water safety is so important. We now know how to stay safe and sensible near water, which is something we will remember for life.
It was such a fun, exciting, and interesting day. We learned loads, worked together, and enjoyed being outdoors with our friends. A big thank you to all the adults for volunteering their time and for helping organising such a brilliant trip for us.
What a great day it really was!
