What a brilliant and busy week we’ve had in Hazel Class! We’ve been learning lots, having fun, and even heading out on an exciting adventure…
English
Our storytelling skills have really taken off this week! We’ve continued learning The Whale’s Song using the Talk for Writing approach, and it’s been lovely to see everyone getting more confident with retelling the story aloud using actions. We’ve also been diving into planning our very own versions – deciding on new characters, setting descriptions, and different things our whales might do. We’ve worked hard on building vocabulary and thinking about how to make our stories exciting and magical. We can’t wait to start writing them properly next week – Hazel Class authors in the making!
Maths
In Maths, we’ve been deepening our understanding of subtraction. This week, we explored finding the difference between numbers using number lines and pictures to help us. We’ve also been getting to grips with missing number problems, which really made us think carefully about what’s happening in a number sentence. We’ve learned how to check our answers using different methods and explain our thinking clearly to a partner. Some of us even challenged ourselves to create our own missing number problems for our friends to solve. It’s been great to see so much resilience and confidence growing in our maths work.
RE
We’ve continued learning about Judaism this week, focusing on the celebration of Sukkot. We found out that Jewish families build special shelters called sukkahs to remember the time the Israelites spent in the desert. We learned how they decorate them with fruit, lights and colourful materials, and we thought about how it might feel to eat and spend time in one with family and friends. As a class, we had some thoughtful discussions about what it means to be thankful and how different faiths show appreciation for the world around them. We even designed our own sukkahs on paper, making sure to include personal touches and lots of decoration!
Beacon Fell
Our trip to Beacon Fell was definitely one of the highlights of the term so far. We swapped the classroom for the great outdoors and had a full day of exploring, learning and creating. We followed sculpture trails, sketched what we found, practised our map skills, and used natural materials to build our own woodland artwork. It was a brilliant mix of teamwork, creativity and fresh air. It was a special day we won’t forget in a hurry.
We’ve had so much fun this week and learnt lots along the way. We’re proud of our hard work and can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next week in our final full week in Hazel Class!
Have a lovely weekend,
Mr Cummings and Miss Martinez
