Today, Year 1 had the best time swapping the classroom for the woods on our trip to Beacon Fell!
As soon as we got off the coach, we were straight into exploring. We followed a trail through the trees, looking out for natural sculptures – some were easy to spot, others were hidden and needed a bit more detective work! We had our paper and pencils with us and tried our best to draw what we saw – twisty branches, funny-shaped rocks, and loads of mossy bits.
After that, we had a go at some map skills. It was fun following the trail, then making our own maps afterwards with all the things we could see!
In the afternoon, it was time to get creative. We gathered leaves, sticks, pinecones and whatever else we could find (that wasn’t too muddy!) and used them to build our own nature sculptures. Some looked like animals, others like the sculpture we had seen during the day – everyone had their own ideas.
It didn’t feel like a normal school day at all – just lots of fresh air, teamwork and fun. Thanks to all the adults who came with us – it really was a brilliant day out!
