What a busy and brilliant week we’ve had in Hazel Class! From exciting adventures in English and marvellous maths challenges to a peaceful and prayerful May Procession, we’ve been learning, creating, and celebrating together.
Here’s a little peek at what we’ve been up to…
English
This week in English, The Highway Rat took us on even more adventures! We loved diving deeper into the story and were so excited when we got to watch parts of the film. We became story detectives, spotting all the clever similarities and differences between the book and the movie. Then came the best part — exploring all the new words from the film! We acted them out, pulling faces, pretending to gallop, and showing what each word meant with our bodies and facial expressions. After that, we used those words to create our own super sentences. We’re turning into authors with amazing vocabularies!
Maths
Maths this week was full of challenges — but we were ready conquer them! We tackled tricky addition and subtraction problems and even worked through arithmetic and reasoning questions. Then we moved on to something brand new… statistics! We looked at graphs and charts, asked questions, and used our maths skills to find the answers. It was like being data detectives, hunting for clues in numbers and pictures!

Music
In Music this week, we had lots of fun exploring different instruments! We became Musical Explorers by playing tambourines, drums, maracas, and more, sorting them into musical families like percussion, wind, and strings. It was like a musical treasure hunt, discovering how each instrument made it’s sound. Then, we played a fun Rhythm Echo game, where our Mr Cummings and Miss Martinez clapped rhythms and we had to copy them — sometimes fast, sometimes slow! We also created our own mini compositions using instruments, experimenting with making our music louder, quieter, faster, and slower. It was amazing to see how much we can do with music when we work together and use our creativity!
May Procession
Friday was a truly special day in Hazel Class as we took part in our beautiful May Procession. At our Catholic school, we do this every year in May to honour Mary, the mother of Jesus, and remember how kind, gentle, and faithful she was. We walked quietly and respectfully over to church, sang hymns, and said prayers to show our love for her. It felt peaceful and full of joy. The best bit? So many of our parents came to watch and support our school family! We also got to show off the amazing flower artwork we made just for Mary — they looked bright, beautiful, and full of love.

We’ve learnt so much, laughed lots, and shared some really special moments this week.
Hazel Class is definitely blooming this spring!
Enjoy the sunshine over the bank holiday weekend!
