Talk Homework – Developing Language

These activities are designed to encourage meaningful conversations and shared learning experiences between parents and children, supporting the development of key language skills. By engaging in the talk homework, children can enhance their vocabulary, comprehension, and sequencing abilities.

Parents play a vital role in guiding their children through these activities, helping them express themselves clearly and confidently.

Through these interactive tasks, children will not only build their language skills but also develop a love for stories and a deeper understanding of how to communicate effectively.

Week 6: Giving Instructions

Prompt:

  • Talk to your child: Encourage your child to give verbal instructions for a task (e.g., “How to make a cup of tea” or “How to put on a coat”) while you follow along.
  • Activity suggestion: Record your child’s instructions and play it back. Ask them if they think the instructions were easy to follow.
  • Questions to discuss:
    • Did you give enough detail in your instructions?
    • What did you do well?
    • Was there anything that was hard to understand? How could you change it?
