Year 5 were fortunate to enjoy two visits to Corpus Christi High School as part of an exciting clay pottery project.
During the first visit, the children worked with clay to create their own pinch pots, learning how to shape and mould the clay using a range of techniques. This hands-on experience helped the pupils develop important Key Stage 2 Art and Design skills, including working with different materials, creating three-dimensional forms and refining artistic techniques. The children showed great creativity and enthusiasm as they crafted their unique designs.
After the pots had been carefully fired in the school's kiln, Year 5 returned to Corpus Christi for a second visit. This time, they had the opportunity to decorate and personalise their finished pots, bringing their original ideas to life with colour and detail. It was wonderful for the children to see how the firing process had transformed their clay creations and to complete their artwork with such pride.
We would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs Watson for sharing her skills and expertise throughout both sessions, as well as allowing us to make use of the high school's specialist facilities, including the kiln.
These visits also provided another valuable opportunity for pupils to spend time in one of our feeder high schools. Becoming familiar with the school environment, meeting staff and using specialist classrooms helps to build confidence and excitement about the move to secondary school in the future.
The children thoroughly enjoyed both visits and are extremely proud of their finished pinch pots. Thank you to everyone at Corpus Christi High School for making us feel so welcome and supporting this fantastic learning experience.
