What a brilliant week we’ve had in Year 6!
First of all, a huge thank you to all our parents and carers who joined us for Parents’ Evening. It was wonderful to share the children’s progress with you and celebrate everything they’ve achieved so far. Your support makes such a difference.
RE – Understanding Jesus’ Arrest and Trial
In RE, we explored the dramatic events of Jesus’ arrest and trial in the Gospel of John. The children dug deep into the text, discussing themes of courage, justice, and responsibility. Some fantastic questions and reflections emerged from our discussions.
Maths – Parts of a Circle
Maths this week was all about circles. Year 6 can now confidently identify and explain key parts such as the radius, diameter, and circumference. They enjoyed investigating how the diameter is always twice the radius and used this knowledge to solve problems and complete practical challenges. Their reasoning skills are really shining through.
English – Non-Fiction Hybrid Texts
In English, the class began planning and drafting their own non‑fiction hybrid texts. Each pupil chose a topic they’re passionate about—from animals to space to sports—and started blending different text types such as explanation, recount, and information writing. Their creativity and subject knowledge have been impressive, and we can’t wait to see the finished pieces.
PE – Cricket Skills
PE has been full of energy as we continued developing our cricket skills. The children practised bowling with accuracy, batting with control, and working as a team in fielding drills. Their teamwork and encouragement of one another have been a real highlight.
Special Visitors – PNE Heritage Project
We were also lucky to welcome visitors from the PNE Heritage Project. They shared fascinating stories about the history of Preston North End, from legendary players to memorable matches. The children loved exploring artefacts and asking questions, and it was a brilliant opportunity to connect local history with our learning.
It’s been a packed and purposeful week, and Year 6 have shown enthusiasm, curiosity, and maturity in everything they’ve done. Take a look at the photos below of time spent with our biddies this week. Well done!
