Over the past few weeks, we have been working closely with our dance coach, Rachael, to create a vibrant Egyptian-themed dance – and the progress the children have made has been brilliant to see.
We began by exploring Egyptian-inspired movements, thinking carefully about how the Ancient Egyptians might have moved and how we could show this through our bodies. The children experimented with different poses, levels and actions, building confidence through short individual sequences. It was great to see them becoming more expressive and willing to perform in front of one another.
As our sessions continued, we moved on to working in small groups. The children collaborated to create their own routines, making decisions about timing, formations and how to link movements together. They showed fantastic teamwork, listening to each other’s ideas and refining their dances to make them even better. There was a real sense of pride as each group began to see their work come together.
Finally, we brought everything together as a whole class, carefully combining the individual and group sections into one complete performance. The children worked hard to ensure smooth transitions, strong timing and clear, confident movements throughout. They also thought about performance skills such as facial expressions and posture to really bring the theme to life.
To celebrate all of their effort, we performed our finished dance to Year 5. The children rose to the occasion brilliantly, performing with confidence and enthusiasm. The feedback from Year 5 was full of praise, with many commenting on how creative, well-rehearsed and engaging the performance was.
We are incredibly proud of the children’s commitment, teamwork and growth over the past few weeks. It has been wonderful to watch their confidence develop and to see them produce such a polished final performance. Well done everyone!
