We had a fantastic time celebrating World Book Day in Year 4, with a full day of activities designed to inspire a love of reading and sharing great books with one another.
We began by writing our own book reviews, where the children had the chance to recommend their favourite stories. It was great to see such thoughtful responses, with many children explaining what they enjoyed, who they would recommend the book to and why others should give it a try.
Next, we got creative by designing a brand new front cover for a book of our choice. The children produced some brilliant artwork, really thinking about how to make their covers eye-catching and how to reflect the story through images, colours and titles.
One of the highlights of the day was our book speed dating activity. The children had the opportunity to share books with their classmates, talk about their favourite parts and listen to new recommendations. It was a great way to discover new authors and genres, and there was a real buzz of excitement around the classroom.
We also created a class list of book suggestions, building a bank of ideas for what to read next. This will be a fantastic resource for the children to continue exploring new books over the coming weeks.
To finish off our celebrations, children took part in a fun challenge at home by taking photos of themselves reading in unusual or interesting places. We loved seeing these shared in school, and it was brilliant to see reading happening everywhere!
A huge well done to all of the children for their enthusiasm and effort – it was a brilliant day that really celebrated the joy of reading
