It’s been another busy and brilliant week in Elder Class, and we’ve packed in so much learning, teamwork and fun. Here’s what we’ve been up to with Mr Cummings and Mrs Brennan…
English – Becoming Story Writers
This week in English, we have been acting out and planning our very own stories inspired by Kensuke’s Kingdom. We’ve been thinking carefully about how to hook our readers and make our writing exciting.
We practised using:
-
Fronted adverbials for where to describe places
-
Noun phrases and expanded noun phrases to add detail
-
Speech marks to show when characters are talking
We worked really hard on planning our ideas, thinking about our characters, settings and adventures. Some of our stories are already sounding amazing, and we can’t wait to start writing them properly!
Maths – Fractions and Equivalents
In Maths, we have been learning all about fractions and equivalent fractions. We’ve been finding different ways to show the same amount using pictures, number lines and bar models.
We enjoyed spotting patterns and proving that different fractions can actually be equal. It was tricky at first, but with practice and support from Mr Cummings and Mrs Brennan, we’re feeling much more confident.
We’ve shown great perseverance and have been proud of ourselves for not giving up when things got tough.
Science – Parts of a Plant
In Science, we have been learning about the different parts of a plant and what they do.
We explored:
-
Roots
-
Stems
-
Leaves
-
Flowers
We talked about how each part helps the plant to grow and survive. We were surprised by how important every part is. We loved linking this learning to the world around us and noticing plants in our playground and outside of school.
PE – Striking and Fielding Fun
In PE, we continued our striking and fielding unit by playing a simplified version of cricket.
We used:
-
Kwick cricket bats
-
Tees
-
Tennis balls
-
Cones
We practised hitting the ball, running between cones and working as a team in the field. Everyone showed great sportsmanship, teamwork and encouragement for each other.
It was brilliant to see how much we’ve improved with our throwing, catching and batting skills.
A Big Well Done, Elder Class!
This week, we have worked hard, supported each other and tried our best in everything we’ve done. We are really proud of our learning and the positive attitude we bring to class every day.
Thank you to Mr Cummings and Mrs Brennan for helping us and encouraging us to do our best.
We’re already excited for another great week ahead in Elder Class!
