Year 6 Weekly Blog – A Fantastic Week of Learning!

What a busy and exciting week it has been in Year 6! The children have thrown themselves into every lesson and activity with enthusiasm, creativity, and real focus. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:

Maths – Mastering Fractions

This week, Year 6 have been working hard on adding and subtracting fractions. We explored how to find common denominators, simplify our answers, and use visual models to understand fraction relationships. The children showed great determination, and many were thrilled to realise that fractions aren’t nearly as scary as they first seem! Look out for opportunities to practise at home – even something simple like sharing food can spark a great fraction conversation.

Gender Equality Workshop

We had a special workshop this week focusing on gender equality. The session encouraged year 6 to think deeply about fairness, stereotypes, and the importance of treating everyone with respect. The children engaged brilliantly, asking thoughtful questions and sharing insightful ideas about how they can promote equality both in school and in the wider world. We were incredibly proud of their maturity and empathy.

Science – Exploring the Human Body

In science, we began our new unit on the human body. This week, we explored where different organs are situated in our body, before moving next week to look at how different systems work together to keep us alive and healthy.

Dance Competition – Routine Underway!

Excitement levels are high as we kicked off preparations for this year’s dance competition. The children have started learning the opening section of their routine, and already it’s looking fantastic. They’ve been practising teamwork, timing, and expression—and most importantly, they’ve been having fun! We can’t wait to see how the routine develops over the next few weeks.
