What an absolutely brilliant week we’ve had in Hazel Class! We’ve been busy little bees, learning so many exciting new things and having lots of fun together.
English
This week we’ve been diving deep into our story, getting to know all the different characters and the amazing things that happen to them. We’ve become real detectives, exploring every detail and discovering new things about our favourite characters each day.
We’ve been working incredibly hard on our describing words, and wow, haven’t we come up with some fantastic ones! We’ve described things as “glittery as the stars” (which made us all think about the beautiful night sky), “colourful as a rainbow” (and we even talked about all the different colours we could see), and “as beautiful as a butterfly” (some of us shared stories about butterflies we’ve seen in our gardens). It’s been wonderful listening to everyone’s creative ideas and seeing how proud we all are of our descriptive language.
One of the most exciting parts this week was when we looked at the special gift that Lilly gave to the whales in our story. We spent lots of time thinking about what gift we would choose if we were Lilly, and the ideas were absolutely amazing! Some of us chose magical shells, others picked beautiful songs, and there were even some who wanted to give the whales rainbow-coloured seaweed. We’ve been putting all these wonderful new ideas into our story work, and we’re getting so excited because next week we’re going to start planning and writing our very own stories. We can’t wait to see what adventures we create!
Maths
Our maths learning has been absolutely fantastic this week! We’ve been exploring arrays and multiplication, and it’s been like solving puzzles every single day. We started by looking at arrays – those neat rows and columns of objects – and we discovered that they’re everywhere around us, from egg boxes to chocolate bars!
We’ve been brilliant at solving multiplication word problems together. We’ve used cubes, counters, and some of us even wanted to use sweets (which would have definitely kept us motivated!) to work out our answers. Some of the problems were quite tricky, but we’ve learnt that if we work together and think carefully, we can solve anything.
The best part has been when we got to create our own arrays and word problems for our friends to solve. We became the teachers for the day! Some of us made arrays with cubes, others used counters, and we even made some using our pencils and rubbers. Then we wrote our own word problems – things like “If there are 3 rows of cookies with 4 cookies in each row, how many cookies are there altogether?” We were so proud when our friends solved the problems we’d created, and it was brilliant fun trying to solve each other’s challenges.
We’ve discovered that maths is everywhere around us, and multiplication is actually quite exciting when you think about it as groups of things coming together!
RE
This week we had the most wonderful trip to church, and it was like going on a treasure hunt to discover all the special things inside! We were all very excited as we walked through the big wooden doors and felt how peaceful and quiet it was inside.
We became real explorers, carefully looking around and spotting all the different religious items that make the church so special. We found the altar at the front, which looked so grand and important, and we learned that this is where special ceremonies happen. The font was fascinating – some of us had never seen one before, and we talked about how it’s used for baptisms when babies become part of the church family.
We were amazed by all the beautiful statues around the church. They looked so detailed and told us stories about important people from long ago. The cross was probably the thing most of us recognised straight away, and we felt very grown-up talking about why it’s so important to people who visit the church.
The most exciting discovery was the tabernacle – some of us had never heard this word before, and we felt very special learning about what it was and why it’s kept so safely. We were like detectives, asking lots of questions and really thinking about all the things we were seeing.
Everyone was so respectful and curious during our visit, and we came back to school buzzing with excitement about all the new things we’d learned. We’ve been drawing pictures of what we saw and sharing our favourite discoveries with each other. It was wonderful to learn about how different people worship and the special places that are important to them.

Walk to School Week
What an absolutely incredible week this has been! Walk to School Week has been such a success, and we’re all feeling very proud of ourselves and our families for taking part.
So many of us have been walking to school this week, and we’ve been earning lots of extra house points for our teams. We’ve been like detectives on our walks, spotting different things we might not have noticed when we came in cars – beautiful flowers, interesting birds, and even some friendly dogs out for their morning walks. Some of us have been walking with our brothers and sisters, others with our grown-ups, and we’ve all been chatting about what we’ve seen on our journeys.
Thursday was the absolute highlight of our week though! Deepdale Duck came to visit us, and we were all so excited to meet him. He was even more friendly and fun than we imagined! But the real excitement came with our sponsored fun run around the track and playground. We ran and ran and ran, and everyone cheered for each other. Some of us surprised ourselves with how far we could run, and we felt like real athletes! We were so proud when we crossed the finish line, and the best part was seeing all our friends and classmates doing their best too.
Friday’s Stay and Play session was absolutely wonderful, and we were thrilled to see so many of our grown-ups come and join us on our school field. We loved showing off all the things we’ve been learning and playing games together. We have to admit, some of us got quite competitive during the games, but that just shows how much we care about doing our best, and we had lots of giggles about it afterwards.
We hope all our families enjoyed the session as much as we did, and thank you so much for taking the time to come and play with us. It meant the world to us!
Have a lovely weekend everyone, and make sure you enjoy this beautiful heatwave! Remember to drink lots of water, wear your sun hats, and maybe you could even have a picnic in the garden.
We can’t wait to see you all on Monday for another exciting week of learning and fun!
