What a fantastic week we have had in Hazel Class, jam-packed with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths! STEM Week has been full of exciting challenges, new learning and lots of smiles. Mr Cummings and Miss Martinez were so proud of all our creativity, teamwork and super thinking.

Science

We were very lucky this week to have some visitors from Preston College! They brought in some amazing science workshops that let us explore and investigate like real scientists. We loved getting hands-on with all the experiments – some of us even wore goggles and lab coats! It was so much fun discovering how things work and trying to guess what would happen next. We asked brilliant questions and remembered to listen carefully to the explanations too.

Technology

On our technology day, we became inventors! First, we looked around our classroom and talked about all the different pieces of technology we use every day – like our interactive whiteboard, tablets and even the kettle! Then we started thinking about what kind of technology we would like to have in the future. There were so many imaginative ideas: a homework machine, a robot that tidies your toys, and even a time-travelling watch! We drew our inventions on special design sheets and then made them using junk modelling – it was amazing to see all our creative ideas come to life.

Engineering

We took on the challenge of becoming engineers by designing and making our very own paper aeroplanes. We had to think carefully about how to fold the paper to help it fly the best it could. Once our planes were ready, we went outside and had a big test flight to see whose plane could fly the furthest. We cheered each other on and measured the distances – some planes flew all the way across the playground!

Maths

In Maths, we explored 2D shapes in a really creative way. We used all sorts of shapes like squares, triangles, circles and rectangles to make our own shape pictures. Some of us made animals, others made rockets, houses or faces – and then we added lots of detail. It was lovely to see how many different ideas we came up with, even when we were using the same shapes!

Sports Day

What a brilliant day we had for Sports Day! The sun was shining and we were all ready to do our best. We ran, jumped, balanced and had so much fun cheering on our friends. A big thank you to all the children, staff and families who made it such a special day. Mr Cummings said we showed great team spirit, and Miss Martinez said she was so proud of how we all tried our best and encouraged each other.

A Special Mention – Gymnastics Team!

A huge well done to our brilliant Year 1/2 gymnastics team who truly shone this week! With the Year 2 children away on a school trip, our amazing Year 1 gymnasts confidently stepped up to represent the school — and they absolutely delivered!

A big thank you to Miss Barton for her fantastic coaching and for helping the children polish their routines and vault techniques in such a short space of time.

Their hard work, focus and determination paid off — the team performed beautifully and proudly brought home the Premier League 1st place trophy and medals for the school!

What great gymnasts you are — we are so proud of you all!

Have a lovely half term break – rest, play and enjoy the sunshine (if it stays out!). We can’t wait to see you back soon for our final half term in Hazel Class – let’s make it a brilliant one!
