What a fantastic week we’ve had in Hazel Class – full of imagination, discovery and brilliant learning!
English – Meet the Mischievous Highway Rat!
This week, we began our exciting new story, The Highway Rat, and wow – what a character he is! We’ve had so much fun predicting what might happen next in the story (some of our ideas were even cheekier than the rat himself!). We talked lots about the main character and used some brilliant adjectives to describe him – like greedy, sneaky, bold and bossy. We also became word detectives, hunting for interesting and unusual words in the book, and used them to write some super sentences about the rat’s adventures and even including some of our own. Next week, we’ll be watching the film version and can’t wait to spot the differences and similarities between the book and the movie!

Maths – Playing with Place Value!
In Maths, we’ve been zooming into the world of numbers up to 100! We’ve explored how numbers are made, used cubes and number lines, and had fun finding one more, one less, ten more and ten less. We’ve also challenged ourselves to order numbers and work out where they belong on a number line – we’re becoming real place value pros!

Topic – Exploring the World Like Real Explorers!
Our new topic is all about Explorers – and it’s already sparking so much curiosity! We started by thinking about what an explorer is and shared what we already know (did you know some explorers discover new animals and insects?). Then we asked lots of brilliant questions like, “Who is the most famous explorer?” “How do they travel?” and “Where are they going next?” We can’t wait to journey through history, discover amazing places and learn all about the brave people who dared to explore the unknown.
