What a special and thoughtful week we’ve had in Hazel Class as we prepared our hearts and minds for Easter. Holy Week has given us so many opportunities to learn, reflect, and grow in our faith. Here’s a little snapshot of the moments we’ve shared…

Learning About the Saints

This week, we became mini researchers! We’ve been learning all about different saints and focused especially on St Francis of Assisi. We found out that he loved animals, cared deeply for nature, and gave up a life of riches to follow Jesus. We were amazed to discover that he even preached to birds!

After gathering all our interesting facts, we wrote our very own non-chronological reports about St Francis. We used headings like Who was he?, What did he do?, and Why is he important today? The children loved sharing their knowledge and did such a great job presenting their facts clearly and proudly.

Crafting Our Easter Cards

It wouldn’t be Holy Week without a little creativity! We had such a lovely time making Easter cards to share with our families. The children carefully decorated their cards with crosses, flowers, and joyful colours to celebrate the Resurrection. The care and attention they put into their designs showed how much they wanted to spread Easter joy.

Stations of the Cross – A Journey with Jesus

We spent time learning about the Stations of the Cross, following the journey Jesus made from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. Together, we sequenced the stations, talked about how Jesus must have felt at each one, and thought about how we can show kindness and love like He did.

The children then created their own storyboards of the Stations of the Cross, illustrating each part of the story with real understanding and emotion. It was a quiet, reflective activity and the pictures they produced were incredibly thoughtful.

Prayer Stations in the Hall

One of our most peaceful moments this week was visiting the prayer stations set up in the hall. Each station invited us to think, pray, and reflect in different ways. We lit candles (battery ones!), thought about people we love, wrote prayers, and took a moment of stillness and silence – something that isn’t always easy in Year 1!

It was a special time to feel calm and close to God, and many children said they felt peaceful and happy afterwards.

Service of Reconciliation

We also took part in a beautiful Service of Reconciliation. The children listened so carefully, joined in with the prayers, and thought about how we can say sorry, make good choices, and be the best versions of ourselves. It was a gentle and meaningful way to end our week and to prepare for the celebration of Easter.

Hazel Class have truly shown reverence, curiosity, and care this Holy Week. We’re so proud of how they have embraced each moment with such maturity and reflection.

Have a lovely Easter Break,

Mr Cummings and Miss Martinez
