We’ve had another exciting and busy week in Hazel class, filled with lots of learning, exploring and fun.
RE: The Last Supper
This week, we learnt about the story of the Last Supper, when Jesus shared a very special meal with His disciples before Good Friday. We thought carefully about how Jesus might have felt, knowing that one of His closest friends would betray Him, and how His disciples reacted when He told them this.
To bring the story to life, we acted it out together, imagining what it would have been like to be there. Some of us created a storyboard to show the key moments, making sure we included the part where Jesus broke the bread and shared the wine, saying, “Do this in memory of me.” Others wrote a recount, using their best writing skills to retell the story in their own words.
Maths: Telling the Time
Time flies when you’re having fun, and this week, we’ve been learning how to tell the time! We focused on reading o’clock and half past times on an analogue clock. We practised by moving the hands of a clock to show different times and played lots of fun games to help us remember when the big hand is at 12 (o’clock) and when it’s at 6 (half past).
We also explored estimating and measuring time in minutes and seconds through exciting challenges! We had great fun guessing how long different activities would take, then timing ourselves to see if our estimates were accurate. We tried tasks like writing our names ten times, running around the track, walking around the playground three times, and even the tricky challenge of taking our jumpers off and putting them back on again! These activities helped us understand how time passes and how long different actions take – comparing and discussing which activity took a longer or shorter amount of time.
It was a fantastic way to combine learning with movement and fun — who knew telling the time could be such a great workout too?
English: Story Writing with Talk for Writing
This week, we have been using Talk for Writing to help us learn and retell a story. We started by creating a story map, drawing pictures and using actions to remember each part of our The Great Paper Caper story. Then, we used our imaginations to make the story our own by changing some of the characters and objects.
Now, we have moved on to writing our very own versions! We have been working hard to use capital letters, finger spaces and full stops, and some of us have even included exciting adjectives to make our writing more interesting. Mr Cummings and Miss Martinez are very proud of how creative we have been!
At the end of the week, Mr Cummings will send off all our stories to Oliver Jeffers (original author of The Great Paper Caper) and hopefully we will get a response!

Our Mother’s Day Cake Decorating Afternoon!
This afternoon was so much fun! We all went to the hall with our friends to decorate cakes for Mother’s Day. There were bowls of icing, sprinkles everywhere, and lots of different decorations to choose from. Some of us made our cakes look really pretty, and some of us just piled on as many toppings as possible (because more sprinkles always make things better!).
It was a bit tricky not to lick our fingers, but we tried our best! Everyone worked really hard to make their cakes special, and we can’t wait to give them to our mums. A big thank you to the PTFA for setting everything up—we had the best time! We hope our mums love their cakes (if we don’t eat them first!).
We have had such a fantastic week full of learning, and we can’t wait for more adventures next week.
Thank you for reading — we hope you enjoy hearing about everything we’ve been up to!
