This week has been one of celebrations. The children organised a birthday party for Merlin thinking about what he likes. This included games and of course lots of food! They all enjoyed altering the traditional games to making them Merlin friendly all being great changing musical bumps to musical sit (even though they think he sits like a lion) and all taking turns when playing pass the parcel. They chose a range of different fruit and vegetables that are tasty and safe for all and of course birthday cake a carrot cake with Greek yoghurt one for dogs and one for children. All made masks and enjoyed looking at life from a different perspective.
We continued our celebrations with Chinese new year. We explored where the tradition comes from and the stories around the day. The children loved the great race story learning about ordinal numbers and thinking again how it’s ok not to be a winner. They thought about the actions of each animal in the crossing of the river whether they were kind to each other or not. We looked at how people celebrate, comparing the festival to our new year. We looked at China as a country comparing it to England and Preston. We decided that although we don’t have a Great Wall Preston does have the guild wheel walk. So we had to build our own.
After all our celebrations this week we spent time thinking about how although we are all different and unique we all have similarities and therefore should be kind and care for each other.
