Talk Homework – Developing Language

These activities are designed to encourage meaningful conversations and shared learning experiences between parents and children, supporting the development of key language skills. By engaging in the talk homework, children can enhance their vocabulary, comprehension, and sequencing abilities.

Parents play a vital role in guiding their children through these activities, helping them express themselves clearly and confidently.

Through these interactive tasks, children will not only build their language skills but also develop a love for stories and a deeper understanding of how to communicate effectively.

Week 1: Story Retelling

Objective: To explore language, story structure, and character development through the traditional tale of Rapunzel.

Prompt:

  • Talk to your child: Read/watch Rapunzel together. After reading, ask your child to retell the story in their own words. Encourage them to use phrases like “Once upon a time…” and “In the end…” to help structure their retelling.
  • Questions to discuss:
    • What happened first in the story?
    • How did Rapunzel feel when she was locked away in the tower?
    • What do you think would have happened if Rapunzel never let down her hair?
