Year 5 Step Back in Time with a WWI Workshop
On Tuesday, Year 5 welcomed a special history visitor into school to help launch our exciting new topic on World War I.
The workshop gave us a fascinating glimpse into the lives of soldiers during the war. We learnt how soldiers had to line up correctly, salute their officers and stand at ease, just as they would have done over 100 years ago. It was great fun trying to follow the commands and experience a small part of military life.
We also had the opportunity to try on authentic wartime clothing and discover the different pieces of equipment that soldiers carried with them. From uniforms to helmets and other essential items, we learnt how important each piece of equipment was for soldiers serving on the front line. Our visitor also showed us examples of the weapons used during the war and explained how they were used.
The workshop was a fantastic way to begin our WWI topic. It brought history to life, sparked lots of questions and helped us imagine what life was like for those who lived through the war. We are now looking forward to learning even more about this important period in history over the coming weeks.
A huge thank you to our visitor for helping to inspire us and hook us into our new topic and thank you to Zaynab for taking all of the fabulous photographs.
