Celebrating the Joy of Reading
June has arrived, and with it comes a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the National Year of Reading. Across our school, children are coming together to share stories, build friendships, and nurture a lifelong love of books. Throughout the month, classes are pairing up to enjoy reading together, creating a real buzz of excitement around stories and storytelling.
This week, we saw a lovely example of this collaboration as Cherry Class joined with Rowan Class on Monday. The children spent time sharing their favourite stories, listening carefully, and enjoying the magic that books can bring. It was a truly heart-warming session filled with smiles, laughter, and lots of enthusiasm.
The older children take great pride in becoming reading role models, developing their confidence, fluency, and expression as they read aloud. Meanwhile, our youngest learners benefit from hearing stories told with excitement and care, helping them to build early language skills and a positive relationship with books.
More importantly, these sessions create a shared joy of reading. Sitting side by side, children experience stories together—turning pages, talking about characters, and imagining new worlds. These moments help to grow a love of reading that goes beyond the classroom, showing that books are not just for learning, but for enjoyment, comfort, and connection.
This celebration of stories will continue throughout June, with more classes joining together to share their favourite books and reading experiences.
Why not take a look at other class blogs to see how they have been joining up this week? Each class has their own unique way of celebrating reading, and there are lots of wonderful moments to discover!
Let’s keep celebrating stories and spreading the joy of reading across our school!
