Some of our learning this week has been with 'The Gingerbread Man', where we have continued to learn new vocabulary to help us when telling our own stories. This week, we have explored some actions and verbs from the text, such as run, chase, bake, eat, leapt, galloped, and outsmarted. We have retold the traditional tale and added in some extra characters of our own. We have loved being able to re re-enact the story in our home area, where all the characters are and of course, dough to make our own gingerbread man!

To support your child's vocabulary, this week's walk and talk activities are based on being at the shops, where you might like to go and find the gingerbread man. Walk and Talk is about inspiring you as a family to go outside and communicate with each other. Talking to young children during everyday activities can help them learn communication skills such as:

  • listening
  • attention
  • turn-taking in a conversation
  • learning new words

Being outside is good for their wellbeing as well as your own and in Lancashire we have lots of beautiful places to walk and talk. You might talk about:

  • listening and describing the traffic as you drop children off to school - what sound do they make?
  • looking at the ducks in the pond at your local park - what do their feet look like?
